HOW SAFE IS RAFTING WITH US?

We don’t just exceed standards —
we help set them.

Wild Blue Yonder has been operating since 1998, safely guiding over 30,000 guests on six different rivers, from class I floats to class IV+ whitewater. Today, the owners are often still guiding your raft, alongside veteran guides from our river family.

Owner and founder, Gina Goldie is President of the Professional River Outfitters Association of Alberta and Executive Director of the BC River Outfitters Association –the provincial regulatory bodies for rafting. She also sits on tourism advisory councils in Alberta and BC. When she’s not on the river, she’s helping shape the future of rafting across Western Canada.

Owner Johannes Zwart isn’t just a class V Trip Leader. He’s a Rafting Instructor & Examiner in Alberta and BC, certifying guides since 2005, and a Swiftwater Rescue Instructor since 2001. He’s been leading, training and certifying river guides for nearly three decades — and running rivers even longer.

Rafting Safety & Risks

Adventure tourism has risks. We can’t control everything — a river is a dynamic, ever-changing environment. But commercial rafting is about 70 times safer than driving a car — and even safer than mountain biking or skiing.

That said, rafting — like all outdoor adventure — requires informed consent.

Rafting companies have an obligation to inform guests of the risks and manage those risks to industry standards. Federal rafting regulations require us to carry liability insurance, and all guests must sign our Waiver and Assumption of Risks Agreement.

We ask you to read the waiver BEFORE you purchase a trip, so that you understand the risks. If you’re buying a trip on behalf of someone else, please send them the waiver link first. If you miss this step, they can still receive a full refund after they review it.

How We Manage Risks

Simply put, safety is the most important thing we do. The safer you feel, the more fun you have. We make sure every trip is as safe as it can be.

We exceed industry safety standards, have strong risk management plans and procedures, use quality gear, and have experienced, certified guides. We’ve been audited by outside experts, including Marine Safety — the federal department that regulates rafting in Canada.

In nearly 30 years, we’ve never had a serious injury. Our experience, systems, and industry leadership are part of why you can feel safe with us.

We’re even “Mom-Approved.” When Gina started Wild Blue Yonder, her kids were just six and nine years old — and she needed to know they were safe on the river. That personal care shaped how we approached safety from day one.

Today, we’re proud to be a company that schools, youth groups

and parents trust year after year.
